OUR PHONICS SCHEME
At Bell Farm we teach children to read using a wide range of strategies and resources. One of the resources that we use is our phonics scheme. We use Ruth Miskin’s Read, Write Inc scheme. This is a resource used to teach synthetic phonics. This means that children learn the sounds that individual letters and groups of letters make. They can then recognise these sounds in the words to decode and read them. Children begin to learn the letter sounds using the Read, Write Inc scheme in Nursery and this continues into reception and year 1 where a daily phonics lesson is taught.
The scheme is used in other year groups as revision of the sounds and for small groups of children who need this additional intervention.
These are the sounds and rhymes/patterns followed in Read Write Inc.
