STARTING SCHOOL

We understand that starting school can be a daunting time for all involved.  To allow the children to become familiar with their new school gradually, we offer a variety of sessions conducted within smaller groups in the build-up to the new term in September.  We also offer a staggered start which involves two days of half days for the children.  This allows the children time to get used to the change in environment and day to day practices.

Children will be allocated an “Induction to School Group” and a “Starting School Group” for the activities during the summer term before they start and for the beginning of school in September

These activities include:

  • Story time at school- a first chance for your child to meet their teacher and hear a story. Sessions are in groups of 15 and parents are also asked to stay. All children will receive a special “All About Me” scrapbook to start completing over the summer holidays.
  • Stay and play at school – a first chance for your child to stay at school without their parent or carer. Children will have a chance to play with some of our favourite toys.

Details of groups, classes etc will be sent out once places have been accepted at Bell Farm Primary School.

We also hold a new parents evening towards the end of June which is a chance for you to meet your child’s teacher and hear about arrangements for starting school. There will be information about daily routines and expectations.

Home visits take place in early September and are a 20-minute visit from your child’s teacher.  This is an opportunity for your child’s teacher to get to know your child and discuss their individual needs, this is also a good opportunity for parents to ask any remaining questions about their child starting school.

Check out this Get Ready For School guide for useful information and ideas for how to prepare children for their new school journey as well as our Path to Bell Farm 2023  to give you some guidance on how to prepare your child prior to starting school.
