VISION FOR ECO-SCHOOLS AT BELL FARM
The Eco Club and Environmental Awareness curriculum at Bell Farm aims to promote a sense of responsibility for the natural world and to foster awareness of the impact we as humans have on our natural environment. Because Bell Farm places significant emphasis on teaching values, it is vital that Bell Farm students understand their connection to the planet and are equipped with a range of realistic strategies with which to affect positive change where environmental issues are concerned.
In addition to an extensive Outdoor Learning curriculum, we have a student-led “Eco Warrior Council” that consists of students from Years 2-6. Participation in this group not only empowers our pupils by offering opportunities for forming leadership, teamwork and communication skills, but it also places our school in a position to have a positive impact on the greater community.
At Bell Farm, environmental awareness topics are written into the curriculum in every year group and we integrate age-appropriate environmental teaching into lessons when opportunities present themselves. Additionally, we hold large-scale projects that involve the entire school in environmental awareness— for example a recent school-wide bottle top collection enabled every class to take part in the creation of a fabulous mural that now hangs proudly in our hall.
